Adventure is a Crafty Beast

Adventure Thriller Author

Doug Sjoquist

Doug Sjoquist crafts adventure thrillers set in America’s wilderness. Ordinary people seeking escape discover dangerous secrets instead–and must fight through fear to uncover the truth and survive.

Doug brings national parks and wild places to life. From deep forests to stark mountains, pristine waters to rugged deserts–adventure is waiting. And it’s a crafty beast.

Doug’s wilderness thrillers combine pulse-pounding adventure with the raw beauty of America’s backcountry. His characters face danger not just from human threats, but from the unforgiving wilderness itself—where one wrong decision changes everything.

Rescue missions that go catastrophically wrong. Secrets that should have stayed buried. Desperate races against time when help is impossibly far away. His stories put ordinary people in extraordinary situations and ask: what would you do when there’s no one else to save you?

If you love outdoor adventure, survival against the odds, and mysteries that unfold in wild places—welcome.

Simple…until it isn’t.

Through the gap and get help—that’s all she has to do.

If only it were that simple.

About Doug Sjoquist

Doug Sjoquist makes things.

Some are tangible — wooden castles and toys for grandchildren, landscapes where gardens grow. Some are intangible — software from rough designs, stories from raw ideas.

He thrives in the world God made. A summer sunset with his wife. A solo walk on a quiet trail. A mountain hike. Paddling glassy waters with his grandkids. Worshipping Jesus in the grand cathedral of His creation. These moments ground him and fill his well.

The Sjoquists live on a dead-end road bordering a park and lake in southwestern Ohio—the last vestiges of what passes for wilderness in their corner of the world. They’ve reached a détente with the local deer, offering portions of their garden each year in exchange for use of the nearby woods for zip lines, tree forts, and hiking.

Doug yearns for mountains and true wilderness. While waiting for the next excursion, he sits on his porch, hikes his woods, canoes his lake, and writes tales of mystery and adventure that take him back to the wild places he loves.
